Engineers Week 2023: A Jurassic Adventure

Engineers Week 2023 was a Jurassic adventure through engineering evolution! With a jam-packed schedule full of classic events we know and love, some new events and service opportunities, and our entire engineering community behind us, we had an amazing E-Week.

Monday: We started the week with our Keynote Kickoff. From Jurassic Extinction to Space Exploration, University of Oklahoma alums Hunter Pemberton and Marcos Stocco talked about engineering evolutions in space and their experiences at OU and beyond. Hosted by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Sigma Gamma Tau, Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, and OU Artificial Intelligence and sponsored by the Student Government Association and Speakers Bureau, we had a blast welcoming alums back to share their insight and launch E-Week.

Tuesday: We treated our students to a free lunch sponsored by Olsson. That evening, we witnessed our fellow students stretch out their creative side and showcase their skills in our Engineers Got Talent show. Hosted by Engineers Serving Others and sponsored by Chevron, we loved seeing all the amazing things our students do outside the Quad.

Wednesday: This day was packed with ways to support and celebrate with our engineers! We began with Engineering Open House, sponsored by OG&E. The event invites high school students from across the state to experience and engage in engineering programs and activities to help them identify why engineering is right for them. Each year, OU Engineering welcomes students from all ages, backgrounds, and high schools to campus for this highlight event. In the afternoon, OBI joined us for our Engineers Blood Drive, where our students donated enough blood to save more than 50 lives. That evening, teams gathered to compete in games of skill, talent, and plenty of luck in our E-Olympics! Hosted by the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and sponsored by Phillips 66, we had an amazing Wednesday of competing and uplifting our fellow engineers!

Thursday: We returned with more free lunches for our students, sponsored by Olsson. Later, we got together for a fun, casual evening at our Alumni Paint Mixer! Hosted by the Society of Hispanic Engineers and Sooners Without Borders, joined by the Gender+Equality Center’s Consent Bar, and sponsored by ConocoPhillips and Mewbourne Oil Company, we enjoyed a guided paint night with mocktails and snacks!

Friday: We celebrated the close of Engineers’ Week with our Fluid Dynamics Lab, sponsored by Boeing! We studied the movement of low-viscosity, green, effervescent fluid into human oral cavities, recognized our award winners, and cheered on the close of Engineers’ Week 2023: Engineering Evolved. We wouldn’t be able to celebrate E-Week without the help of our two sponsors for our annual shirt and historic mug. This year, Underground Printing, served as our shirt sponsor, and Williams, served as our mug sponsor.

Over 1,200 students participated in Engineering Week 2023. We can’t say thank you enough to our corporate partners, student organizations and student volunteers for an amazing week. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2024!
