Chemical Engineering Professors Elected Fellows in Global Institute

OU engineering professors Brian Grady and Daniel Resasco are recipients of the AIChE Fellowship, the highest grade of membership in the global organization with more than 60,000 members.

“Being named an AIChE Fellow is a great honor and I am pleased to see the contributions of both Dr. Grady and Dr. Resasco recognized,” said John Klier, dean of the Gallogly College of Engineering. “OU is pleased to have the only engineering faculty in Oklahoma receive this coveted fellowship for 2021.”

Joining the OU faculty in 1995, Grady has played a key role in understanding how carbon nanotubes affect the properties of polymers. Carbon nanomaterials are used in polymers in automotive and electronic applications.

Grady serves as the director of both the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering and the Institute for Applied Surfactant Research at OU. He also serves on the steering committee at Chulalongkorn University’s College of Petroleum and Petrochemical Engineering in Thailand. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Resasco joined OU in 1993 and holds the inaugural Gallogly Chair of Engineering in the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering. He is a lead researcher for the Center for Interfacial Reaction Engineering at OU.

Resasco has dedicated his career developing novel methods for manufacturing carbon nanotubes and catalytic processes for the conversion of biomass to valuable chemicals and fuels.  He is the author of more than 300 publications and holds over 40 industrial patents. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Universidad Nacional del Sur (National University of the South) in Argentina and a doctorate from Yale University.

Grady and Resasco will be recognized as AIChE Fellows in November at the organization’s annual meeting in Boston.
