3 Receive American Society of Civil Engineers' Honor
The Forensic Engineering Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers selects a paper published in ASCE Journals during the previous calendar year for its Outstanding Paper Award.
The 2019 paper award goes to “Lessons Learned from Two Elementary School Collapses during the May 20, 2013 Moore Tornado,” by Chris Ramseyer, Ph.D., Lisa Holliday, Ph.D. and Samuel T. Sherry. The paper was published online Nov. 20, 2018, and was included in the Volume 33, Issue 1 (February 2019) issue. Learn more.
Ramseyer served as a professor in the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma. During his tenure, he received many awards including the OU Vice President for Research Award for Improving Quality of Life and Communities, the CEES George W. Tauxe Outstanding Professor Award and the OU College of Engineering Alumni Teaching Award.
Holliday, an OU alumna, gained tenure in the Division of Construction Science in the College of Architecture at OU. She is a FEMA certified structural specialist and is trained to work on a post-disaster urban search-and-rescue teams.
Sherry earned both his bachelor's degree and master's degree in civil engineering from OU. His doctoral research topic focuses on the use of carbon fiber–reinforced polymers to retrofit and repair structural steel.
