OU Engineering Faculty Receive Top Honors at Annual Celebration

Numerous faculty from the Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma received honors for their outstanding work during the 2021 OU Faculty Tribute. They are:

Janet Allena professor in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, was presented with the Vice President for Research and Partnerships Award for Excellence in Applied Research and Engineering. She is known for her work in decision-based design and formulating problems and modeling uncertainty.

Rong Gan, a professor in the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, received the George Lynn Cross Research Professorship, the highest research and creative activity honor given by OU to a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership over a period of years in his or her field of learning or creative activity. She is a researcher and scholar in ear biomechanics for sound and blast overpressure transmission, computational modeling of the ear and implantable hearing devices.

Jessica E. Ruyle, an associate professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, received the William H. Barkow Presidential Professorship. She has two patents for her antenna design work and is the recipient of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Young Faculty Award for her work in highly conformal, placement insensitive antennas.

Bin Wang, an associate professor in the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering, received the Regents’ Award for Superior Research and Creative Activity. His background has given him an advantage for conducting interdisciplinary and highly impactful research in both fundamental and applied fields. He is active in several areas of research including catalysis.

Rui Q. Yang, a professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, received the Gerald Tuma Presidential Professorship. Yang is the inventor of interband cascade lasers with research activities ranging from physics to semiconductor quantum devices.

Several engineering faculty received the Vice President for Research and Partnerships Annual Award for Excellence in Research Grants, which recognizes tenured or tenure-track OU investigators or teams of investigators who have obtained extramural sponsored research awards of $1 million or more during the past year. OU engineering faculty received support from organizations that included the National Science Foundation, NSF Oklahoma EPSCoR (Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research), U.S. Department of Defense, Office of Naval Research, U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and U.S. Department of Energy.

Each year, OU celebrates the achievements of its faculty through a variety of awards and recognitions. The Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost coordinates awards and the event is hosted by the OU Board of Regents and the OU President.
